Indonesia's History of Petrus

Petrus as known by the acronym of "Penembak Misterius" which means "Mysterious Shooter", is a nickname given to the perpetrator of the Petrus tragedy that happened in Indonesia from 1983 to 1985 (early 1980s). 

At that time, the high crime rate that happened in Indonesia led to the emersion of the mysterious shooter who will execute the criminals using a sniper from the far away distance. The victims of Petrus included some bad people of the government, people with tattoos, criminals, gangsters, and recidivists, although there is some report of wrong targetting victims. Estimated the number of victims of Petrus reached thousand of people because its spread in several regions of Indonesia. 

At That time, the Petrus operation was considered effective in eliminating criminals and reducing the crime rates in Indonesia. However, Petrus is a criminal act of human rights due to the violation of taking someone's life without using the legal law process.

Until right now, the Petrus case is still being investigated and we still didn't know who was the man responsible for the case. The Commission of Human Rights (KOMNAS HAM) Indonesia having difficulties in investigating this case because lack of information from several people who were considered to have a connection to this case such as some witnesses, some people from retired army/soldiers, and retired police officers.
