Who became famous for painting a tin of soup? The answer is the American pop artist Andy Warhol. Andy painted everyday objects and he also liked to collect them in large numbers: some cookie jars, a set of cutlery, some vases, some furniture, and paintings. Andy died in 1987 and his vast collection was sold. Someone paid $23,100 for two cookie jars which had cost a few dollars each. Some pieces of furniture were sold for nearly $300,000. The sale raised a lot of money for the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, which may now have $100! So, before you clear out your attic, take another look. What you think is rubbish today, might be treasure tomorrow. That ugly old vase belonging to Grandma may be more valuable than you think!
