What is Waduh Memes Means in Indonesia?

Based on the Great Indonesian Dictionary, 'waduh' is an exclamation word to express amazement, surprise, confusion, and astonishment. It's having the same meaning as its derivate word 'aduh' and in English has a similar meaning to the word 'wow/damn'

For Indonesian, Waduh memes is a meme template to express a funny-confused-surprising situation that we don't know how to react such as: 

when you accidentally always met your hot beautiful cousin; 

when your wife asks you about what special day is today, but you totally forget what is it; or 

when you stay up late till sunrise, but in the same morning you're having an exam.

The memes usually followed with an image/video of Mr. Waduh who was an Influencer named Thomas from France (Instagram: @thomsofficiel_ / TikTok: @thomsofficiel__ ). The origins of the memes begins when he made a short video content showing a facial expression with his hands touching the top of his head on a background music named 'Paradise - TELL YOUR STORY music by ikson' in early 2023. Indonesian netizens considered his facial expression as a perfect memeable face to a funny-confused situation aka. Waduh moment.

It's also used for a meme template 'ayo aja gua mah', which in English could be translated as 'let's just do it', to express a situation when someone asks you to do something weird yet acceptable. Then will be followed with a standardized word 'sebaiknya jangan gegabah' which means 'you shouldn't be rushed' with a picture of a serious-looking Chad. Such as :

Going to school at 7:30 in Highschool (ayo aja/let's just do it)

Going to class at 7:30 in collage         (waduh/damn)


Scrolling TikTok using wifi         (ayo aja/let's just do it)

Scrolling TikTok using mobile data (sebaiknya jangan gagabah/shouldn't be rushed)
