The Humbler Comedian - Short Story About Life Lessons

I'm an introvert stand-up comedian who has been in the community for years. Everyone considers me their senior, even though I never perform in any stand-up competition. In that time, the only way a new comedian could make money was by building their reputation through competition or a community event.

I can't perform in front of many strangers, I go black out because I feel so nervous. That's why I always perform in an intimate community event because I know all the audience. My reputation increased only from a community event and I ended up getting recommended to get a corporate job.

The corporate job is suitable for me because I can limit my audience to not more than 10 people, even though most of them have big names. That's how I got respected by the community, mostly people feel more pressured when performing in front of high-status people, meanwhile I'm enjoying it.

Also I found it funny, I dont even feel any pressure when perform in front of those guys. Meanwhile I can see some of those high level people facial expression who worried wether Im funny enough or not. Its because no video of my performance in social media, so people only know my comedy type is suitable for corporate only from word of mouth.

One day, I felt insecure about myself. I talked about it with my stand-up community leader, who is also my best friend. After years I've doing many corporate jobs, I told him that I want to improve myself so I can perform in front of many people.

He frees me to take whatever path I want, but it's okay to be myself. He told me, as a friend and leader, that the things that I've achieved had satisfied him and made him proud. He thinks that the things that I do, performing with high-level people, are the peak of stand-up comedian can do.

He then gives me a nickname, the Humbler. Because whenever a new comedian has a star syndrome, they show off about their job performing in many people, they will said my name to break their overpride. Doesn't matter how many crowds and jobs anyone has, I'm the one who received the most money.

I'm not a typical people who like to brag, but I like my nickname and I enjoy the feeling when someone praises me. I also love the money, so yeah.., I guess imma keep doing less-people corporate stand up job.
